FMS250 for Dad's Birthday

My dad's birthday is September 1st and I need to get his card popped into the mail.  I decided to use Freshly Made Sketch 250 as my inspiration today.

Here's my card:

Here's the challenge from FMS250:

I think I've told you before that my dad has had a love affair with horses all of his life.  He's raised Quarter Horses and mules.  He rode every chance he got until he was trail riding and the horse stumbled on a slick rock.  The horse was fine but Dad broke 7 ribs and was in the ICU for a week.  He still rode for awhile, but finally gave it up at age 80 a couple of years ago.  He's also a simple man so my I wanted to make him a Western-type card with little to no fussy stuff.

Here's what I decided upon:

  • I used Delightful Dijon as my base.
  • I pulled a beautiful piece of DSP from the Serene Scenery DSP Stack.  It reminded me of pasture ground on the farm where I grew up.
  • The stamp set I used is called Horse Frontier and is retired.  I usually refrain from retired product, but I've kept this one because it works for "Dad" cards so well.
  • I stamped the horse on Very Vanilla and embossed it in Soft Suede.  I do this by inking the stamp with VersaMark first and then right into the Soft Suede ink.  It does not hurt your ink pad at all!  I learned this from Sam Hammond.  One of my top 10 best tricks EVER!
  • After embossing the horse I used colored pencils to shade in the image.
  • I mounted the image on a Delightful Dijon oval with Dimensionals.
I think I have a winner as far as my dad is concerned.  I hope you like it too!  If so, please sign up to get my blog delivered right to your email so you can see more of my projects.

Happy stampin',
Robin
